Mrs. Zapata's Visit
Mrs. Zapata came today for her third visit. Today we learned about the vegetable food group with her. We sampled spinach and green beans (uncooked.) Many of us thought we wouldn't like how these vegetables tasted, but then we did! We are learning so much about healthy eating!

Addition Problems/Packing Peanut Creations
We have started a new math unit. We are now practicing addition problems. After doing some practice today as a class using math manipulatives, we made up our own math problems! We did a great job on this assigmnment!
This afternoon we used packing peanuts and made some amazing creations! It was so fun dipping the packing peanuts on a damp paper towel and then sticking them together...no glue needed!!! We are some pretty creative kindergarten students!!!

Popsicles/Ice Cube Painting
We ate Popsicles this afternoon and then painted pictures using ice cubes! The ice cubes were made with food coloring in them. They were fun to write and draw with on our papers! Our pictures were very colorful when they dried! We thought it was pretty "cool" to make pictures with our colored ice cubes! It's was fun to eat a cold treat and do artwork with cold ice cubes! We are having so much fun with snow and ice activities in our classroom!!!

We Made Ice Cream Today!
We did a fun science experiment that we got to eat today! We made ice cream! It was fun watching how a liquid could turn into a solid. We put salt, ice, and individual containers of coffee creamers in a plastic container. Then, we shook the container for 5 minutes. After shaking the container the coffee creamers turned to ice cream! They were sure yummy to eat!!!

Special Visitor/Painting Snow
We had a special visitor today and she did a cool experiment with us! She put a latex glove on, covered her hand with Crisco, and then put another latex glove over the Crisco. The Crisco represented "blubber" (fat) that some animals have to help keep them warm in Winter. We each got to put the glove on and put our hand in ice water. We also put our uncovered hand in the ice water. The experiment quickly showed us that our covered hand was much warmer because we had "blubber" on it to keep it warm! We had so much fun with this experiment!
This is what it looked like outside when we dumped our painted snow outside!

Hooray for Snow!
We were so excited when it started snowing today! We all had to go look out the windows and check it out!!!
We brought some snow into our classroom and looked at snowflakes with magnifying glasses. We learned that no two snowflakes look alike and we looked at pictures of beautiful snowflakes on the Smart Board, too.

Snowman Bottles/Balłoon Play
We found out today what our mystery project was! The other day when Mrs. Bickel put shredded paper all over the floor she wouldn't tell us what we were going to make! She just told us to fill our bottles with shredded paper!
We finished them today and turned them in to snowmen! They were adorable!!!
We played with balloons today! We waddled around the room like a penguin carrying an egg! This was hard to do!!!

Let It Snow!
Since we have been learning about measurement during math time, we made snow sticks today! We had to paint and decorate our snow stick first, and then we marked from 1-9 inches on it. Now we just need it to snow so we can take our snow sticks outside and measure how deep the snow is! We hope to get to use our snow sticks soon!!!

Mrs. Zapata's Visit/Penguin Measurement Activity
Mrs. Zapata came today and talked to us about the grain group and why it's important for us to eat foods from that food group. She showed us some wheat and read the story "The Little Red Hen." We then got to eat whole wheat bread. We can't wait to see what food we get to sample next week with Mrs. Zapata!
