Valentine's Day Fun!

We were so excited when we arrived at school and saw chocolate candies hidden throughout our classroom!  We had to find all 100 of them that Mrs. Bickel hid!  Then, we had to look at the number on the bottom of each piece of candy and place it in its correct spot on the "100 Heart Chart."  We were really fast at finding the hidden candies, but putting them on the chart took a little more time!

We had a Valentine's Day Party today!  It was so much fun!  We played a balloon game, painted clay hearts, made ice cream sundaes, and threw huge marshmallows through a large valentine heart!  Our valentine bags were full of goodies that we got to take home, too!  It was a wonderful party, and a great way to end our four-day week!!!

Mrs. Zapata/Candy Heart Science

We learned about the dairy group with Mrs. Zapata today for our nutrition lesson.  This was a fun day with her because she let us make pudding!  We got to choose between vanilla or chocolate pudding!  We loved this activity!

We experimented with what happens when you put candy hearts in water, vinegar, and soda today.  We also made predictions about whether the candy hearts would sink or float.  It was fun to watch the candy hearts "dance" when we dropped them in the soda!  We discovered that some of the candy hearts started to dissolve in the vinegar and the candy hearts started turning the water a different color in the water cup.  This was a fun experiment to observe.

Valentine Candy Math

We used candy hearts to do our math lessons today!  We sorted our candy hearts by color and then graphed how many of each candy hearts we had.  It was fun getting to eat our math work when we were done sorting and graphing!

The 100th Day of Kindergarten!

We had busy, fun day today!  We celebrated our 100th day of kindergarten!  It was fun to talk about things we have learned in 100 school days!

Our favorite activity was making our "100 Day Snack!"  We had to count 10 of each of the 10 food items we had in our classroom and put them in a bag.  Then, we got to eat our snack after sorting it first at snack time!

We also wrote a "100 Day Book" today, read books about the 100th day, talked about our "100 Collections" we brought from home, and found 100 dinosaur toys on our playground at recess.  We worked hard and had a lot of fun today!

Groundhog Day

We were so happy when we found out the groundhog did not see his shadow today!  There was a lot of cheering that took place in our classroom because we are ready for Spring!  We enjoyed reading about Groundhog Day and making a groundhog puppet that went along with a song we learned at school today.  We also had fun looking at our Groundhog Day predictions from yesterday and making some shadows outside today at recess!

These are the puppets we made!

This was a funny groundhog book we read!

Yesterday we made our predictions about the groundhog and whether or not he would see his shadow.  The 'NO' group was so happy today when they found out that they correctly predicted the groundhog would not see his shadow!

After talking about he groundhog and his shadow we made some shadows of our own outside.  Some of us took puppets and stuffed animals outside to recess and used them to make shadows.  Others of us just used our hands and bodies to make shadows.  We even talked about how it's fun to make shadows at home on the wall using a flashlight in a dark room!

It's February!

To celebrate the first day of February, we made some new decorations for our classroom bulletin boards!  We made beautiful tissue paper hearts and some cute valentine people!  We will post a picture of the completed bulletin soon!!!

In the hallway, we put some new work for February, too.  Check out the pictures we made by turning a candy conversation heart into another object.  These are really fun to look at and read in our hallway!  We are creative students!!!
