Penguins/Mystery Project

We started reading some nonfiction books today about penguins.  After learning a little bit about them, we watched some penguins on the "live penguin cam" on the computer.  We loved seeing real penguins walk right up to the camera so we could look at them on the Smart Board!  We could even hear the noises they were making!  It was like being at the zoo without having to leave our classroom!

Mrs. Bickel let us make this "mess" today!  We had to fill plastic bottles with shredded paper, but she wouldn't tell us what they are going to be!  Check back in a few days to see pictures of the completed projects that these bottles will soon be!

Guest Reader

We were so lucky to have a guest reader today!  She read us two good stories!  We were great listeners and hope she comes to read to us again someday!

Snowmen/Ice Skating

We decorated the snowmen today that we made yesterday by mixing shaving cream and glue together.  They look amazing hanging in our hallway!

We went ice skating today!!!  After reading a book called "Mice on Ice" about some mice who go ice skating, we tried ice skating in our classroom!  This was done by standing on pieces of wax paper and then "skating" around our classroom!  Some of us could move really well on our "ice skates" and some of us had some amazing moves!  This was so much fun and a great Friday afternoon activity!

After we finished ice skating, Mrs. Bickel let us have an indoor snowball fight!  We had a blast!  We are all definitely ready for some snow so we can have real snowball fights outside!

Writing Time and Shaving Cream Paint

We worked so hard at writing time today!  Many of us are writing neater and trying to write two sentences at writing time!

We mixed shaving cream and glue together to make shaving cream paint!  The glue helps the shaving cream stay "puffy" looking when painted on paper.  We painted snowmen after mixing together the shaving cream and glue.  We will post pictures of our completed projects tomorrow after our work is dry!  This was like an art and science lesson mixed together!

Special Visitor

We started our nutrition lessons today.  Mrs. Zapata will be visiting our classroom on Wednesdays from now until mid-February to teach us about physical activity, food groups, and healthy foods.  Today she talked with us about germs and the importance of washing our hands.  We loved meeting her puppet named "Bac" (bacteria) and doing some pretending with him!  Mrs. Zapata put lotion on our hands to represent germs and then let us look at the "germs" on our hands under a black light.  This was really cool and helped us better understand that there are many germs on our hands, even though we can't see them!

Look closely and you will see the "germs" on our hands under the black light!

Happy New Year!

It was great to be back at school today!  We were all so glad to see each other and talk about the fun things we did during Winter Break!  We had so much fun playing together at Choice Time, too!

We worked on a snowman project today that introduced us to our math measurement unit.  We wrote our names on snowballs and then turned the snowballs into snowmen.  Using the snowmen, we made comparisons.  We used words like "shorter, taller, same size, etc." when comparing our snowmen.  This completed project looks great hanging in our hallway!
