So what do you do on a beautiful fall day?  You take a nature walk!!!  It was a great day to go outside, too, because we all had our sunglasses that we wore for Spirit Day today!

We took a walk around our school and observed so many neat things!  We found trees that were changing colors, acorns the squirrels had been eating, leaves that were big and colorful, trees that had big holes in them, and much more!  We had such a great time exploring nature today that we might have to go on another nature walk soon!  All of the students were excited to take home their bag of "treasures" that they found outside!

Our room was full of pumpkins today when we arrived at school!  Each student took home a pumpkin after school with instructions for the family decorating project we are doing with the pumpkins.  We can't wait to see what creative ideas people have for decorating their pumpkins!  Our classroom is going to look amazing with 17 decorated pumpkins in it!!!  We will post pictures of the decorated pumpkins soon!

We made necklaces using Apple Jacks!  It was our "Fun Friday" activity.  We enjoyed eating the cereal while we worked on these necklaces!  Stringing all of those pieces of cereal was great practice for our fine motor skills!

We made applesauce today!  We LOVED peeling, slicing, and coring our apples with Mrs. Bickel's apple peeler!  We we amazed at how long the apple peels were after we peeled them!  We sure did love eating the peels...or the "apple worms" as some of us called them!

Some of us thought the peels looked like "apple spaghetti" when Mrs. Bickel put them in this bowl!

This is what our applesauce looked like when we started cooking it.  We added water, brown sugar, and cinnamon to the crockpot after dumping in the apples.  Our classroom smelled delicious while our applesauce cooked!!!

This is what our applesauce looked like after it was finished cooking.  Only two students in our class didn't like the applesauce we made.  The rest of us LOVED it!!!  It tasted really sweet!

During math time today we sorted some apples.  We also talked about other ways we could sort them.  Some of our ideas included: big apples/little apples, apples with stickers/apples without stickers, apples with stems/apples without stems.  In this picture we sorted red apples, green apples, yellow apples, and other apples (Gala, Braeburn, etc.). We counted how many apples were in each of our groups, too!

Some of us decided to throw a "surprise party" for Mrs. Bickel during choice time...and it's not even her real birthday!  We made her a birthday crown, drew her pictures, made some gifts for her out of paper, and then posed with her for this picture!  We were really sneaky and worked quietly in the art area so she didn't know what we were planning!!!

September 23, 2015

Mrs. Bickel cut open an apple.  We couldn't believe that there was a star inside of it!  We thought it was so cool!!!

We tasted a red apple, green apple, and yellow apple.  We talked about how they tasted sweet or sour!  Then, we decided which apple we liked best.  Check out our picture!  10 people liked the red apple, 2 people liked the green apple, 2 people liked the yellow apple, and one friend didn't like any of the apples!

We had a "Share Circle" after writing time today.  We were respectful listeners when others read what they wrote today!

During math time today we played a Johnny Appleseed game.  We did a great job counting dots on a dice and finding the number on our game board that matched what we rolled!

Ms. Thomason came and taught a lesson to us today about letters and read a book to us called "Alphabet Adventure."  We did a great job with her activity!

We made apple cider today!  We put apple juice, brown sugar, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in the crock pot and cooked it for three hours.  It smelled so good in our classroom!

Almost all of us liked the apple cider!  We tasted apple juice first, and then tasted the apple cider.  We decided it is the perfect fall drink...one friend disagreed. :)

We had a fabulous shape food party!  The different shapes of food were AMAZING!  The students did a great job identifying the shapes of the foods they were eating.  This was definitely a successful activity and we couldn't have done it without the help from our wonderful parents!!!  THANK YOU!!!

We made torn paper trees today!  We are excited about the fall and the beautiful colors we will soon see on the trees!

We just love exercising to the songs and videos on "GoNoodle" in our classroom!  We work so hard at school that we have to take some "brain breaks" throughout the day so our wiggles can get out of our bodies!!!

September 11, 2015

Look what tried to come into our school this morning!  Mrs. Bickel arrived at school today and found this baby squirrel trying to get in the door by our classroom!  Good thing she had her camera to get a picture of him!  We think he is safe in the woods now next to our playground.
