Open House
We had a great Holiday Open House! We had fun being "snow children" and performing for our families! We are so glad that so many family members got to come and watch us perform!

Gingerbread Man Traps
Some students built traps on Friday in hopes that they could catch the Gingerbread Man over the weekend that was loose in our school! Unfortunately, all he left us was a note that said "Ta-ha, Te-he, you didn't catch me!" He did leave us a tiny gingerbread house, though!

Gingerbread Man Hunt
After lunch we found a note in our classroom. It was from The Gingerbread Man and he said that he was loose in our school! We followed his clues and tried to find him, but we only found some treats he left for us in the library! We loved the gingerbread cookies and tiny candy canes he left for us!

Gingerbread Science Experiment
We made predictions about what we thought would happen if we put a gingerbread man cookie in water. We had some great predictions! Some of our predictions were: it would get soggy and mushy, it would sink to the bottom of the cup, it would all break apart, it would dissolve.
After 10 minutes in the water, we notice the cookie sank to the bottom and the water was dark brown at the bottom of the cup.
After 30 minutes we tried to pick up the cookie, and discovered that it was soggy, mushy, and broke apart when we touched it! We were surprised that the cookie did float back up to the top after it had been in the water for 30 minutes!
More Gingerbread Fun!
We decorated gingerbread houses today!!! They aren't edible houses...we made them out of Styrofoam and art materials. We worked hard on our houses and we will be displaying them in our school lobby when they dry!
During math time we practiced counting pieces of candy (paper candy) and placed them on gingerbread house papers. We had to look at the number on our gingerbread house paper and only put that many pieces of candy on our gingerbread house. Our houses looked good enough to eat!

Gingerbread Activities
We read a book called "The Gingerbread Pirates." After reading this book, we made pirate hats! Thank you to the parent who donated these hats to our class! We had fun making them!
We played a gingerbread matching game during math time today. This game gave us more practice with the numbers 11-20.
We made scented paint today! We mixed cinnamon, allspice, and ginger together and added it to our brown paint to make it smell like gingerbread paint! Our classroom smelled yummy while doing this activity! We painted white paper plates with our gingerbread paint, and we will turn them into an art project this week!
