Gingerbread Science Experiment

We made predictions about what we thought would happen if we put a gingerbread man cookie in water.  We had some great predictions!  Some of our predictions were: it would get soggy and mushy, it would sink to the bottom of the cup, it would all break apart, it would dissolve.

Here was our cookie when we started the experiment:

After 10 minutes in the water, we notice the cookie sank to the bottom and the water was dark brown at the bottom of the cup.

After 30 minutes we tried to pick up the cookie, and discovered that it was soggy, mushy, and broke apart when we touched it!  We were surprised that the cookie did float back up to the top after it had been in the water for 30 minutes!

We decided the gingerbread man would not have been able to swim away from the fox in the story "The Gingerbread Man!"
